We had such a late night last night that I didn't get a chance to write you. So here are two days in one!
Yesterday was our first 4th of July without you here! In order to avoid a breakdown I just opted not to think about it. So we woke up bright and early (ok, 8am but for us that is EARLY) and went to the Red, White, and Moo at the Superstition cow farm. On our way we picked up Westy and Dorothy so they could come with us. It was a lot of fun and Mike and Megan with their kiddos met us there. We fed goats, ate homemade ice cream fresh from the cows, and had a fun tractor ride. It was definitely out of our (me and Megans) element because we aren't really "dirt" people but we made the best of it and had fun! The kids loved it and played on the big pile of hay and enjoyed seeing the cows. Sadly, we got rained out after about an hour but we were wrapping it up anyhow so it wasn't too much of a bother. We then headed over to Candee's for a swim lesson, the kids are still doing awesome! They are learning more and more and I think Colin will be swimming on his own by the time he is 4! Cecily is still a little fearful but she doesn't cry...more just wimpers. hehe After lessons we went home for naps and got ready for our dinner at Candee and Jacks. Everyone brought something to share and it was delicious! Mommy brought Curly and we thought her and Roger would have a great time...instead Roger was TERRIFIED of her and would run away and hide! I told Candee that Roger is just scared of black dogs and we need to work on his prejudice! haha But Curly enjoyed her little evening out exploring the back yard and playing with all the kiddos. I got a funny picture of mom and Candee with their dogs on their laps. It was quite hilarious to see and I had a mental picture of them as old ladies with their lap dogs! I wonder if 30 years down the road we will have a re-do? After dinner we went over to the Kroehlers to watch fireworks! They have a great view and we don't have to fight the crowds! The kids loved them and Cecily kept saying, "Big boooom!" Quite a bit more brave than her brother, who at 2 was terrified and would cry or try to hide. But we already knew he was a bit of a scardy cat! This year though he liked them and had a blast with the sparklers. He tried lighting some of their trees on fire but they had just irrigated so it didn't work! You would have laughed from Heaven at poor Pam if your grandson lit her tree on fire! Pam would have thought it was a joke straight from you! We all missed having you here...we were reminiscing on how just last year we were in your back yard lighting things off...Christian started a fire in the trash can...you were chasing the kids with roman candles. Mommy was having a hard day missing you so she went home after dinner, put on one of your old t-shirts, and laid next to Curly's cage. My heart aches for her everytime I see the sadness in her face! She lost her best friend, love, and husband! There is no way to recover from that! So that wraps up yesterday!
Today was a pretty uneventful day. Woke up, played with the kiddos, made forts, had snacks, lunch, naps, then we went over to your house so that Tobin could do my hair for me and Bryan's anniversary date tonight. We hadn't gone out yet and I decided that I needed to make it happen because my poor hubby really needed some attention! We dropped the kids off at the Spears and went to a little Italian place called VinciTorio's. It was really good and we even had a wonderful man play the accordion for us! It was a long over due date night! I wasn't sure if Owen would take a bottle (which he did, first kid to take one! YAY!) so we went back after dinner. All in all it was a pretty good day!
Of course there are a few sad parts and some funny kid parts. I'll start with the sad ones so that I can finish on a happy note! I was making lunch and had forgotten that I had a picture of you with Colin from when he was about a year and 3 months old standing in the church lobby. He noticed it and said, "Oh, that was when my grandpa wasn't throwing up! But now he isn't throwing up anymore, he is at the mineral home with Jesus." I think his little mind is starting to grasp what has happened and he gets a very sad look on his face everytime he mentions you or hears mention of you. He just cries and says, "I want my grandpa Wayne back!" I totally sympathize with him! I want my daddy back! Cecily has developed a major crush on Larry Boy. She walks around all day saying, "He's a hero!" and singing "Laaarrrry Boooy! Rock on Larry boy!" I guess it's hard to resist a guy in uniform! Then later on in the car I had a funny conversation with him, but it had a moment that made me cry. On our way to your house I reminded him he was wearing underwear (first time he has EVER asked to wear underwear and he didn't have 1 accident! I was SHOCKED!) and that if he needed to go potty he had to go in the toilet. I mentioned that Curly went outside where she was supposed to and he said, "I can go outside too! Sometimes Westons pees outside in the plants...but I don't do that...I just pee in Grammie Candee's pool" I died laughing and without thinking about it I got my phone out to call you only to realize that I couldn't. I started crying realizing that what was second nature to me, calling you when something funny happened, could no longer happen. It was such a deep hurt! Then as if God was speaking to me, a song came on my ipod and it was Nichole Nordeman. Here are the lyrics:
If I had the chance
To go back again
Take a different road, bear a lighter load
Tell an easy story
I would walk away
With my yesterdays
And I would not trade what is broken for beauty only
Every valley
Every bitter chill
Made me ready to climb back up the hill
And find that . . .
You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?
You're my horizon
You're the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise
There's a moment when
Faith caves in
There's a time when every soul is certain God is gone
But every shadow is evidence of sun
And every tomorrow holds out hope for us
For every one of us
You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?
You're my horizon
You're the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise
You alone will shine
You alone can resurrect this heart of mine
You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?
You're my horizon
You're the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise
You are sunrise
Here is Cecily provoking her brother.
